Ellesmere Shropshire was originally a fortified Anglo Saxon settlement, things have obviously changed a little since then, however the Town still holds a regular Market Day which has been held every Tuesday since Henry III granted the first Market Charter  all the way back in 1221

The Mere, the largest natural lake in England outside the Lake District and one of nine glacial Mere's in the area (a Mere is fed by natural springs whereas a lake is fed by streams or small rivers). A local legend is that a ghostly white lady can be seen wandering around the mere.

Cyclists find Ellesmere a very useful and convenient place to take a well deserved break in a stunning Market Town for a bite to eat before setting off again

Narrow boaters are as equally spoiled, with the Wharf just a two minute walk away from the Town, access to all Ellesmere couldn't be easier, Ellesmere also boasts it's very own Blackwater Meadow Marina providing boaters with a host of information and services
